Dr. Ibrahim M. M. Furfuri was born on the 15th of June, 1964 and is a native of Furfuri town in Bungudu Local Government, Zamfara State. He attended Furfuri town primary school from 1972-1977, and had his secondary education at Government Teachers College Gusau from 1977- 1982. In 1983 he was admitted into the Federal College of Education, Katsina where he obtained an N.C.E in Hausa/Islamic Studies in 1986. He obtained his Bachelor of Art Degree in Library Science/Hausa and Masters Degree in Library Science all from the Bayero University Kano in 1992 and 2003 respectively. He then proceeded to University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) where he obtained a Doctorate Degree in Library and Information Science in January, 2017.
Dr. Furfuri began his career as a primary school teacher with Kware-Kwabri primary school, Tsafe Local Government Education Authority, from 1982-1983 and Government Girls Secondary School Moriki, from 1986-1989 as secondary school teacher, all in former Sokoto State. He was also a Teacher-Librarian at the Vocational Training centre, Ganye, Adamawa State during his NYSC in 1993. He later served as a teacher in the Government Girls Secondary School Kotorkoshi, Zamfara State, in 1994. He moved to the Federal College of Education (Technical) Gusau in the same year as an Assistant Librarian. He also served as Substantive College Librarian from May, 2007 – April, 2017 at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Gusau.
Ibrahim Furfuri, has served as chairman of various committees which included the Examination Monitoring Committee and Research and Publications Committee. He also served as secretary/member of Educare Journal, during which he compiled index of different textbooks and co-edited a book of readings titled Promoting Peace Through Teacher Education. He also attended several professional conferences and workshops both locally and at the international level. He has presented academic papers. He published journal articles as well as chapter contributions to his credit.
Ibrahim Furfuri has also contributed to community development such as Chairman of the Co-operative Thrift and Credit Society, Federal College Education (Technical) Gusau (2010- 2017). Himma Farmers Association,Mareri, FCE (T) Gusau from 2003-2007, Furfuri Education Development Committee from 2012 to date, Secretary of Nigerian Library Association,Zamfara State Chapter, from 2009-2013, He is also a member of the Bungudu Emirate Tertiary Education Sub-committee. He has also received commendation letters from the College Management for vigilance and dedication to duty as the Chairman Examination Monitoring Committee in 2005. Considering his contributions to women education, the association of Women in Colleges of Education (WICE) in Nigeria, Zamfara State chapter recognized him with an award of excellence which was conferred on him in the year 2016.
Currently, Ibrahim Furfuri is serving as the Ag. University Librarian of Sokoto State University, Sokoto
